Arts and Dances
Cambodia is rich in culture and traditions; from dancing, sculpture, painting and other expressions of creativity. This is where intersections of Cambodian art and Catholic faith are made possible.
These traditions are richly preserved in the dances, the music and the icons that have come to symbolize our Catholic Faith. The dances were first developed in the refugee camps near the Thai border before peace was reestablished in the country. Through the years, the dances were refined and more were developed. A total of 5 classical dances are now in use, and interested young people are trained strictly in the classical tradition. An Office for Arts and Culture under the Msgr. Oscar Romero Pastoral Center was created in 2009 to spread and enrich the Khmer cultural heritage of the Catholics in Cambodia. |
