Traditional Music
|
Music classes teaching young students how to play traditional Khmer instruments started in February 2012 after an announcement was made that a traditional music teacher would start teaching interested students. Several youths applied and was later tested to see what instrument they wanted to play and were good at.
At present there are 8 students who practice from Mondays to Fridays from 6:00 – 7:00 PM in front of the Church. There are 6 traditional music instruments played in an arrangement. These are; 1) Percussion instruments: រនាត (roneat), ស្គរធំ (sko thom) សម្ភោរ (sompho), ភង (pong), ឈឹង (chheng), 2) Wind instruments: ស្រឡៃ (srolay). The music group is expected to play during holidays of the liturgical year or special programs for guests. The musical instruments are a good way to express the faith of the people through the Khmer traditional culture. |
