BATTAMBANG: On 22 July 2012, Our Lady of the Assumption Parish held a small gathering for scholars who have completed another year of their studies. July marks the end of classes for most universities in Battambang. 45 students and 9 committee members of the parish including parish priest Fr. Totet Banaynal, attended the celebration.
Haem Borey, a church committee member, spoke during the occasion to encourage graduating students. “Please try your best on your studies. The church has already supported you. Now you should find your future by yourself.”
Fr. Totet also took the time to congratulate the scholars, “I am very happy to see all of you here trying hard to complete your studies and take part in the activities of our church. We support only the students who really study and maintain good scores in class. I would also like to thank all our volunteers who helped us in our education projects.”

To maintain a scholarship, a scholar has to maintain a non failing grade in their study. Some scholars shared their difficulty with the requirement. “There is much competition in class. We often need a lot of time to study and it is not easy, but we are trying hard.” Vong Liyi, a Grade 10 student studying in Sam Dech Euv Highschool shared.
Sok Thy, a Grade 11 student studying in Preah Monivong Highschool spoke on behalf of the other scholars. “We would like to say thank you so much to Fr. Totet, the committees, all the Catholics, especially Caritas Sweden, who gave us a scholarship for one year. We promise that we will be a good student, good child, good friend, and good people for our community.”
At the end of the gathering, some gifts were distributed for the students who were able to maintain a high score in their studies.
